The Attributes of a Good Polo Pony



Speed, intelligence and agility by themselves, do not make a good polo pony. He must be clever. He must be able to dodge and swerve while going full speed, and to wheel and turn on the proverbial dime. Besides this, he must be able to follow the ball, and instinctively put his rider in a good position to hit it. He must be completely steady and unaffected by the waving mallets and yelling crowds. In addition, and no less important, he must have much courage, and not flinch from contact, sometimes violent, with another mount.

Graduation


Zanita has been at DaCory Farm in Saratoga Springs, NY, for the past 2 1/2 years. She has come a long way. Her trainer, Emma, feels it is time for her to step-out into the world and start using all of her skills. I feel like I did when each of my children left for collage. As they were maturing they tried so many different things until finally something clicked. One eventually became a lawyer, one a mother and wife, and one a polo instructor and referee. With Zanita it was racing, polo, feedlot, trail riding and now dressage. I hope this will work-out for Zanita, and she doesn't do what so many adult children do nowadays and move back home.
